Brookfield Voters Reject Latest Budgets

The latest proposal was about $400,000 less than the budget plans defeated two weeks ago.

BROOKFIELD, CT -- Voters rejected the $42.9 million school spending proposal and the $24.1 million town budget in a referendum last night, sending the plan into a new round of revisions, the News-Times has reported.

Following a review of the answers to advisory questions that accompanied the ballot, officials indicated the majority of voters thought the budgets were too high. The latest proposal was about $400,000 less than the budget plans defeated two weeks ago, which would have increased school spending by 4.7 percent and town spending by 0.75 percent.
