Brookfield's Candlewood Lake Authority Will Stock Triploid Sterile Grass Carp to Combat Milfoil
Candlewood Lake Authority will be stocking triploid sterile grass carp to compliment the winter drawdown.

The Candlewood Lake Authority (CLA) announced Monday they recently began an aggressive plan to keep Eurasian watermilfoil in check. Through a grant proposal made to the CT Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP), the group will be stocking triploid sterile grass carp to compliment the winter drawdown. Sterile grass carp eat aquatic plants such as Eurasian watermilfoil and have been used to control milfoil in many lakes and ponds, including New Fairfield’s Ball Pond since 1998.
The CLA is also working to minimize algae blooms on Candlewood Lake, prevent zebra mussels from entering the lake, and is working to provide Marine Patrol to keep boaters safe. The CLA relies heavily upon donations from the public to continue their work.
