Car-into-Boat Crash Investigation Continues

State police say they are still investigating the cause of an accident earlier this month. Meanwhile the driver, a Brookfield resident, is finally discharged from Danbury Hospital and is recovering, officials said.

The investigation into why a car slammed into a boat trailer that had become disabled on Interstate 84 is continuing with few clues on what caused the accident, according to state police.

Meanwhile the driver, William Guglielmo, 42, of Eastview Road, Brookfield has been discharged from Danbury Hospital and is recovering, hospital and state police said.

A motorist who saw the impact got in touch with state police but had little information that gave investigators insight into what may have caused the crash, state police said. As a result the accident remains under investigation.

, of Abner Drive, Slidell, LA, had been traveling west on the interstate, towing a trailer that had a motorboat on it. Near the westbound interstate entrance ramp by Exit 10, Church Hill Road, Newtown, the Ford truck pulled onto the shoulder of the highway because one of the trailer tires had a blowout, state police said.

Unser and passenger, Aaron Brittain, 45, of Montrose Drive, Carriere, MS, then exited the truck and were in the process of changing the tire when the trailer and boat were struck from behind by a Nissan Versa, operated by Guglielmo, state police said.

Guglielmo received critical injuries to his head and torso, and was taken to Danbury Hospital, officials said.

The men who were working on changing the front passenger-side trailer tire were thrown to the ground by the impact and were uninjured, police said.

Apparently they were standing either behind the guard rail or, due to the crash, were thrown back onto the grass behind the guard rail, all of which kept them from being seriously injured, state police said. They were unaware of the Nissan and the crash at the time, believing they had been thrown because the boat had slipped from the trailer, according to state police.
