Two Brookfield Finance Workers Quit, Complain of 'Toxic' Environs

The senior accountant and clerk both left, alleging workplace was 'hostile.'

BROOKFIELD, CT — Two employees of the town finance department quit their jobs in May, alleging a hostile work environment, the News-Times is reporting.

Former Town of Brookfield Senior Accountant Dayna Weiss accused her supervisor, Controller Kimberly Siegrist, of preventing her from going to doctor’s appointments when she was pregnant, releasing her personal medical information and creating a “toxic” work environment overall. Weiss resigned May 24. The following day she wrote a letter to the boards of finance, selectmen and ethics stating she quit because of the way Siegrist treated her, the News-Times reported.

Former Town of Brookfield Accounting Clerk Savanah Gallipoli supported Weiss' accusations. She left her job with the town a week before Weiss did, alleging the stress level was affecting her health..

Weiss had been cited in the annual audit for 2016-17 for failing to properly reconcile bank accounts with the general ledger cash account, and had failed to meet certain pre-arranged deadlines.

The town has hired two temps for the finance department in the wake of the departures of Weiss and Gallipoli, and is reviewing applications for filling the positions full-time.
