Update: Crash Near Brookfield/New Milford Line Result of Police Pursuit

A pursuit on Route 7 ended in the crash.

According to Fox, the suspect was identified as he has been arrested before.

State Police released additional details about the pursuit.

A trooper from State Police Troop A noticed a pick up truck with a motor vehicle violation traveling on I-84 westbound near Exit 6 in Danbury at around 10 a.m. . According to State Police, the driver of the truck engaged the trooper in a pursuit on I-84. The truck operator left the highway at exit 7, entering Route 7 northbound. The truck operator continued northbound and eventually struck the rear of a box truck that was in slow-moving traffic in New Milford.

According to police, the accused operator was extricated from the truck. The operator was found to have serious injuries and was transported to Danbury Hospital. The driver of the box truck struck by the accused did not appear to be injured, but was transported to Danbury Hospital for evaluation.

Route 7 has partially reopened although commuters should still expect heavy delays.

The News Times reports that it has been confirmed that the man engaged in the pursuit is suspected of robbing the bank in question.

He was identified as 46-year-old Christopher Basigalup.
