The administrative team has spent considerable time reviewing the new provision from the Governor and State Department of Education, made last week, which allows for district flexibility regarding selection of a reopening plan. The announcement granted districts the ability to elect either a 100% In Person Model or Hybrid Model to begin the 2020-2021 school year. Prior to this announcement, all districts were required to offer a 100% In Person model. After careful consideration and deliberation, the decision has been made that the Brookfield Public Schools will begin the year in a Hybrid Model K-12.

Operating in a Hybrid Model is in the best interest of the health and safety of students, staff and families. In this model we will strive to be more in alignment with CDC Guidelines for physical distancing. The Hybrid Model provides the opportunity for less population density on the school buses, in the parking lots and in the schools. The Hybrid Model supports the mitigation strategy of social distancing in ways the 100% In Person Model did not. Cohorting efforts are enhanced with the implementation of the Hybrid Model as well.

Lessened crowding in halls and public spaces can be achieved when half the students are in attendance at school. Bathrooms, classroom sinks, and hand sanitizing stations will be more readily accessible to the students with the Hybrid Model. Additionally, there will be decreased waiting time for students when using bathrooms and sinks. Less wait time will positively impact not only hygiene, another crucial mitigation strategy, but there will also be an increase in time dedicated to learning.
