Down Wires Close Portion of Federal Road Thursday
Sagging wires catch on passing truck Thursday night.

A portion of Federal Road was closed Thursday evening between Silvermine Road and the exit 12 entrance to the Super 7 bypass after Brookfield police received reports at 7:16 p.m. that wires were down across the roadway in front of 640 Federal Road, the plaza that contains The Table, Kidz Korner and Lotus Hair Salon, among other businesses.
According to police, it appears as though the ground beneath a telephone pole softened in the rainstorm, causing it to sag. The power lines sagged low enough to get caught by a passing tractor trailer, bringing the wires down across the roadway and cutting power to that section of Federal Road.
As of 9:45 p.m. Connecticut Light and Power was reporting 16 Brookfield without power.
