Early Morning Oil Spill on Stony Hill Road

State crews cleaned up petroleum leaked from a truck early Tuesday morning.

There was an oil spill on Stony Hill Road early Tuesday morning, coating the roadway from Pocono Ridge Road down to the intersection with Junction Road at Graffiti Bridge.

Department of Transportation (DOT) maintenance crews were called to the scene around 7:30 a.m., according to DOT Director of Communications Judd Everhart. The spill was cleaned up completely by 8 a.m. and there are no reported safety concerns. The DOT workers sanded the road to absorb the oil and prevent vehicles from slipping on the hill, which was already slick due to constant rains throughout the morning.

The spill was small and the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) was not notified, according to a spokesperson for the DEP.
