Emergency Crews Respond to 2 Major Accidents Overnight

Brookfield volunteers were kept busy working through the snow and ice late Monday night.

Brookfield’s volunteer firefighters and EMTs responded to two motor vehicle accidents as overnight Monday into Tuesday.

In first incident, at 11:34 p.m. Monday, units responded to reports of a car into a pole on Route 7 northbound, with the pole lying across the highway. The debris was cleared and the driver was transported to Danbury Hospital with minor injuries.

Later that evening, at 3:28 a.m. Tuesday, dispatchers received word of a vehicle off the roadway on Candlewood Lake Road at the intersection with Hollow Oak Lane. Emergency responders arriving at the scene discovered a vehicle 10 feet off the road and down a 5-foot embankment, declared a Mass Casualty Incident (MCI) and called for an additional ambulance and paramedic.

Four patients were transported to Danbury Hospital, the most critical of whom was conscious and alert but suffering from facial lacerations.

A small gasoline spill was also found and contained and the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) was notified.
