Former Schools Chief Case Against Brookfield May Go to Court

BROOKFIELD, CT — A former Brookfield schools superintendent may finally get his day in court with the Board of Education after the BOE fired him nearly three years ago, The News Times is reporting.

The BOE fired former superintendent Anthony Bivona in October 2014, alleging that he did not properly oversee the district's finances.

Bivona's defense was based upon blaming the former business manager, Art Colley, for "improper accounting and financial management practices he did not disclose." Colley was one of two staff members accused of stealing thousands of dollars from the schools, and the budget was reportedly overspent by more than $1 million, while Bivona was superintendent.
