Found Coins - Freed!
The Urban Archeologist discovers an odd display of coins and sets out to change their status.

If you know what you’re looking for, you can go to a hundred sales and never find anything. However, if you don’t know what you are looking for, like me; you can find something every time.
At a Weston, CT sale a few weeks ago, after navigating a long icy driveway, I came to a palatial home in the process of being emptied. Well picked over, I quickly assessed that I would not easily find the “story” I was looking for.
After searching through the two garages and a basement full of empty boxes and furniture, I had all but given up. The only thing that caught my eye was something that looked out of place and in pieces - A framed board with coins glued randomly all over it.

Leaning against a paneled rec room wall was a 25” x 20” plywood board that had been painted black and covered with a glass frame. The frame was now astride the board and many of the coins had been removed leaving only ghostly images of the departed.
