Four Corners Streetscape Project Referendum Set for Tuesday: Brookfield Voter's Guide

BROOKFIELD, CT — In a vote that will decide the fate of the funding for the Four Corners Streetscape project, Brookfield voters will hit the polls to determine whether the town will borrow the funds for the first phase of the downtown development.

"SHALL THE TOWN APPROPRIATE AN ADDITIONAL $1,700,000 (FOR A TOTAL APPROPRIATION OF $2,200,000) TO FUND THE COSTS OF PHASE I OF THE FOUR CORNERS STREETSCAPE PROJECT AND AUTHORIZE ADDITIONAL BONDS OR NOTES AND TEMPORARY NOTES OF THE TOWN IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $1,700,000 (FOR A TOTAL BORROWING AUTHORIZATION OF $1,950,000) TO FINANCE THE APPROPRIATION?"

What does that all mean?

Voters will be deciding whether the town should borrow $1.7 million to round out the funding for the first phase of the project to revitalize the Brookfield Town Center Four Corners District, according to the town. State grants are estimated to cover the remaining 60 percent of the funding, and the News Times reports that will be an estimated $3.5 million.

According to the town, the first phase will help create new sidewalks, new street lighting, cross walk enhancements and new street parking.

Information Session

Featuring First Selectman Steve Dunn and Project Manager Greg Dembowski, the town will be hosting an information session Monday at 6 p.m. The session will provide residents an opportunity to ask questions and learn about the scope of the project before the referendum vote.

Where do I vote?

District 1 voters will vote at Huckleberry Hill Elementary School, and District 2 voters will vote at Brookfield High School.
