Draw Leaf Table - A draw leaf table is a form of extension table developed from the refectory table popular in England back in the 16th century. Additional surfaces or leaves are stored below the table top and withdrawn from each end to make the table longer. This type of table faded in the early 18th century as extension pedestal tables became more popular. The draw leaf table was rediscovered again during the depression era and was sometimes referred to as an “apartment” table because they were used in small apartments. After the depression era single and double extension pedestal tables replaced the draw leaf table once again. Today it’s rare to find draw leaf tables that are constructed out of solid hardwood.
