Homeowner Extinguishes Barn Fire Monday

Emergency volunteers responded to a fire call but were beat to the punch.

Brookfield’s volunteer firefighters responded to a call of a barn fire on Nabby Road at 7:30 p.m. Monday night but discovered that the homeowner had already put out the small flame with his personal extinguisher.

According to Candlewood Chief Gary Gramling, a bale of hay seemed to have shifted and come in contact with a nearby light, causing the bale to ignite. Emergency responders arriving at the scene helped move some of the bales out of the barn and checked to make sure no embers remained.

Gramling said two or three horses were taken out of the barn during the check but were never in danger.
