Man Suffered Brain Damage At Brookfield Costco: Lawsuit
The man was hit in the face with a steel rod that fell when he went to grab an item, according to lawsuit.
BROOKFIELD, CT — A North Salem, NY man is suing Costco after he was hit in the face by a steel rod while grabbing a package of paper towels at the Brookfield store, according to a lawsuit.
Peter Aurigemma is suing the retailer for more than $75,000. The steel rod fell from the top of a display pallet on Oct. 29, 2016 from around a height of seven or eight feet, according to the lawsuit.
He suffered facial trauma, a pinched nerve, concussion, lapses of short-term memory and irreversible brain damage among other complications, the lawsuit states. He has experienced emotional distress, lost wages and his ability to carry out life activities has been impaired.

"As a proximate result of Defendant's negligence and carelessness, and the injuries and conditions caused thereby, Plaintiff will be at a significantly higher risk of future mental and neurological illness which contributes to his worry, concern, anxiety and emotional distress in his day-to-day life and his loss of life's enjoyment," wrote Aurigemma's attorney Christopher Sochacki in the complaint.
