Masks Required For All In Brookfield Schools This Fall: BOE

The Board of Ed confirmed the current protocol requiring both vaccinated and unvaccinated to wear masks in school buildings this fall.

BROOKFIELD, CT — As the school year begins, all students and staff, vaccinated or vaccinated against the coronavirus, must wear face masks inside school buildings.

The protocol is aligned with Gov. Ned Lamont's executive order in place through Sept. 30, as well as the most recent guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The Board of Education reaffirmed the directive in an email to staff and parents on Monday.

Since mask wearing is not optional, schools will provide one if a child forgets theirs at home. They will be required on public transportation for riders and drivers, including on school buses.

Masks will not be required for outdoor activities, including Physical Education and recess, according to the email from the BOE

"While it is the ultimate goal of the Board to eventually not require masks for staff and students, this decision must be made based on a totality of circumstances existing at the time the decision is made," the email said.

The Board will review any and all future local, state and federal guidance and mandates to determine whether local mask requirements may be relaxed or otherwise lifted in part or in whole.
