Opinion: 'I Still Believe That Good People Do Bad Things'

Not that I expect that anyone reading this cares what I, just someone living here, with no affiliations and no power base, thinks, but in the end, it may well be people like me who decide the election, so here goes.

Our family has lived here 25 years. We raised our children here. I am a registered independent. Over my lifetime, I have voted on both sides on the aisle, and choose to vote for the people who best represent the policies I endorse.Although political office should be about character above all else, I tend to forgive people their failings, since we all make mistakes.

I still believe that good people do bad things, and that a mistake should not damn them for life. I do not know any of the candidates personally.

The only skin I have in this game is the financial investment my family has made in our home, and whether or not Brookfield is a place we want to and can afford to live out our years. I have only recently started posting and have tried to take a philosophical approach to the venom in this campaign. Well, that ends now.

I received my mail today and I am outraged! I have absolutely no idea who Steve Dunn is. Oh, I read his bio, read up about him on the internet, read the postings on line, but still that does not tell me who he IS. All I have seen from his campaign is negative information about Bill Tinsley. Yeah, there is a character flaw in Mr. Tinsley’s past, no secret there. Out in the public domain for all to see.

What is not out there is who Mr. Dunn is, and what he stands for, except that he puts his “family first” and that he may have fallen into foreclosure (some supporters have claimed on line that said foreclosure was due to a “scheme”; if, in fact that is true, how can we know that he will not let the town fall prey to a scheme?). It’s pretty sad that I am being asked to give my vote to someone who stands for nothing and expects to get my vote SOLELY by continuing to slander his opponent.

So, Bill Tinsley et al just got my vote. Bill’s done pretty darn well for this town the last two years. Vote row B.
