The Brookfield Fire Department responded to a report of an open burn in the area of 200 Whisconier Road on Wednesday, April 7, at 4:29 p.m. A large brush fire was found in the rear of 204 Whisconier Road and was out of control, having spread from where it was originally started.

Firefighters were able to get the burn under control and John Schalkham, 46, of 204 Whisconier Road, was arrested and charged with kindling fire in the open without authorization. He was released on a written promise to appear in court on Tuesday, April 20.
