Police Blotter: Bad Accident on Lake Road; Warrant for Tire Theft

Tuesday, September 27

Brookfield police and fire departments responded to a one-car crash in front of 490 Candlewood Lake Road at 6:16 p.m. Upon arrival, a bystander was assisting the operator in getting out of the vehicle, which was still running and leaking gasoline.

The operator, Patrick Streaman, of Silvermine Road, Brookfield, was transported by ambulance to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries.

According to reports, Streaman was traveling northbound on Candlewood Lake Road and lost control of the vehicle, driving off the roadway and crashing into a concrete culvert where his vehicle stopped and was laying on its side. First responders at the scene found him half-ejected from the car and bleeding badly.

The vehicle caught fire as it was being pulled from the ditch, however fire personnel were on the scene and extinguished the flames quickly.

The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) was contacted and responded to the scene to investigate the spillage of gasoline and its close proximity to Candlewood Lake. Fire department personnel also took steps to contain the spill.

Streaman was issued a verbal warning for failure to maintain proper lane of travel and failure to wear a seat belt.

Wednesday, September 28

Seymour police pulled over two people with warrant out of Brookfield for theft of vehicle parts and conspiracy to commit larceny for an incident that occurred on August 13, 2011.

Christopher Teal, 27, of Seymour Ave., Seymour, and Michelle Hubbell, 33, of Bantam Lake Road, Morris, were taken into custody and both were charged with larceny in the sixth degree: theft of vehicle parts, and conspiracy to commit larceny in the sixth degree. According to Brookfield police, the two were at on Federal Road in Brookfield on August 13 and needed a spare tire, which they took from another vehicle in the parking lot.

They were released on written promises to appear in Danbury Superior Court on October 11.
