Police Blotter: Check Kiting and Two DUIs

The following arrest information was supplied by the Brookfield Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Wednesday, June 8

Police responded to at 9:21 a.m. for reports of a customer attempting to kite checks. After an investigation, Trudy Brown,42, of Homestead Ave., Danbury, was arrested and charged with criminal attempt at larceny in the third degree and was released on $10,000 bond pending a court appearance in Danbury Superior Court on June 9.

According to police, Brown attempted to withdraw about $6,000 from an account the day after she had deposited several bad checks, but was unsuccessful.

Monday, June 6

At 9:33 p.m., Michael Carroll, 22, of Vista Drive, Brookfield, was observed traveling southbound on Federal Road at approximately 52 mph (in a 35 mph area) by an officer using radar. The officer was behind the vehicle when he also observed it fail to stop for a red light in front of on Federal Road.

A traffic stop was initiated and standardized field sobriety tests were administered. Carroll failed said tests and was charged with traveling unreasonably fast, failure to obey a control signal and operating under the influence of drugs or alcohol. He was released on $500 bond with a court date set for June 17 in Danbury Superior Court.

Brookfield police responded to a reported one-car motor vehicle accident that occurred in the parking lot of 14 Candlewood Lake Road near . Witnesses stated that the suspect vehicle caused property damage and the vehicle sustained heavy damage.

Police located the vehicle and followed it north on Candlewood Lake Road at a slow speed of 15 mph due to the damage to the suspect’s vehicle, including two flat tires. The vehicle finally stopped in the Town Brook Commons apartments off Nabby Road and the suspect was identified as Mark Bivona, 35, of Town Brook Commons, Brookfield.

After investigation, Bivona was found to be operating under the influence and was arrested and charged with a DUI, evading responsibility at an accident, disobeying the signal of an officer in a marked police cruiser and reckless driving. He was held on $2,000 bond with a court date scheduled for June 7 in Danbury Superior Court.
