Police Safety Checkpoint Near Cornfields Tuesday

Buckle up in Brookfield Tuesday.

The Brookfield Police Department will be conducting a seat belt and child safety seat checkpoint Tuesday as part of the state wide Click It or Ticket campaign. Patrols will be stopping vehicles from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the intersection of Route 133 and Federal Road.

The 2012 Click It or Ticket campaign aims to heighten awareness that seat belts save lives. Aggressive enforcement of safety belt, child safety seat, speed, and DUI laws will remind motorists to use good highway safety sense, especially during the highly traveled summer months, according to a release issued Tuesday morning.

Ejection from the vehicle is one of the most injurious events that can happen to a person in a crash. In fatal crashes, 75 percent of passenger car occupants who were totally ejected from the vehicle were killed, the release stated. Safety belts are effective in preventing total ejection: only 1 percent of the occupants wearing a seat belt were totally ejected compared with 22 percent of unrestrained occupants.
