Railroad Debris Sparks Brush Fire Wednesday

Firefighters extinguished a small but pesky brush fire Wednesday afternoon.

Brookfield firefighters quickly squelched a brush fire on Junction Road Wednesday presumably caused by hot carbon debris falling off of a passing Housatonic Railroad freight car.

Emergency responders were dispatched to reports of heavy smoke in the area of Pocono and Junction Road at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday. Firefighters discovered a small brush fire in the thicket behind 48 Junction Road and were able to fully extinguish it by 4 p.m.

Homeowner Jim Masullo lauded the volunteer firefighters’ response in putting out the blaze and sent the photos attached.
