In his endorsement, Senator McLachlan said:

“Clay has had his finger on the pulse of his community for a number of years, first as a civic leader and more recently as a First Selectman. His background in both business and public service, and especially his understanding of government budgets, which includes setting and adequately funding priorities, makes him ideally suited to represent the 5th District in Congress.

Clay has already successfully served thousands of constituents at the municipal government level. His always-open, customer-service style of representation, along with his focus on results over rhetoric, is exactly what is needed here in the 5th District.”

“I have worked closely with Senator McLachlan from the day he began representing Sherman in Hartford,” said Cope. “He is a relentless advocate for limited government and lower spending, for adherence to the state’s constitutional spending cap, and for eliminating unfunded sate mandates on cities and towns. He is also widely respected for his efforts on behalf of open government and clean elections and he spearheaded the successful opposition to border tolls in the Danbury area.”

“Michael is a good friend and dedicated pubic servant who is thoughtful and thorough in representing all constituents throughout his district. I am honored to have his endorsement and support for my campaign for Congress.”
