Tip-a-Cop Thursday at Maggie McFly's

Stop by for dinner Thursday night and you’ll have an additional trainee as your server: a Brookfield police officer.

have restarted their annual Tip-a-Cop fundraiser, in which they spend the evening assisting local wait staff in support of the Special Olympics of Connecticut. Officers will be partnering up with the waiters and waitresses at Maggie McFly’s from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., with additional tips going to support Connecticut’s Special Olympians.

“We do it almost every year and it’s a lot of fun,” restaurant manager Tom Feola said, and the fundraiser is generally well staffed. “There are usually more cops than I have servers.”

Diners will be tipping their professional servers as usual and asked to leave a little something extra for charity.

In the past, the officers have raised a few thousand dollars, according to Brookfield police Captain John Puglisi, with the restaurant kicking in a contribution as well.

“We’d raise $1,500 and they’d make it $2,000,” Puglisi gave as an example.

“And we usually buy the cops dinner after,” Feola added.
