Two Police Unions Endorse Martin Foncello in Campaign for Re-Election

The Police Officers Association of Connecticut (POACT) & Connecticut State Fraternal Order of Police (CT FOP)  endorse Rep. Martin Foncello.

Brookfield, Conn. - The Police Officers Association of Connecticut (POACT) and Connecticut State Fraternal Order of Police (CT FOP) are both backing Martin Foncello, State Representative for the 107th House District in Brookfield, Bethel, and Newtown, for re-election.

The POACT officially endorsed Foncello, touting his support of issues that matter to police and their families, along with his focus on public safety. The CT FOP endorsement reflects their recognition of Foncello’s commitment to public safety, the law enforcement community, and residents.

“It’s an honor to receive the endorsement of these two organizations,” said Foncello. “We did a lot of work over the past few years when it comes to crisis response drills and PTSD assistance. We need to make sure that our first responders have everything they need when they show up to protect our kids, and that includes training cooperation with the schools.”

Foncello was proud to support law enforcement through retention and recruitment proposals.

He backed a new law for security officer training requirement waivers for certain correction, parole, and police officers, and judicial marshals who present proof of completing equivalent training. Foncello also supported a law allowing former parole officers meeting certain qualifications to provide armed security services in public schools. They would have to meet the same annual training requirements that other retired officers must complete in order to qualify.

For over 14 years, Foncello worked in New York City as a Senior Intelligence Officer with the newly created Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Office of Intelligence and Analysis acting as a liaison to the NYPD, FDNY and Office of Emergency Management.

“Working closely with these agencies gave me a stronger appreciation of the job they do day in and day out, and that’s reflected in my votes in Hartford,” noted Foncello.

The Police Officers Association of Connecticut was founded in 2016. The organization brings officers together under a single, strong voice for public policy and legislation. Their membership includes roughly 5,000 sworn police officers in the union.

The Fraternal Order of Police represents professional, full time officers from all agencies of law enforcement, according to the organization's website. The organization is dedicated to improving working conditions, wages and benefits, while also monitoring legislation affecting law enforcement on the local, state and national levels.
