The Yankee Fair and Barn Sale at the Congregational Church in Brookfield is in its 46th year. As much as we love the food, the crafts and the treasures found there, the reason for the fair is to raise money for various enrichment and charities. About half of the fair money goes to church enrichment projects like our Refugee Resettlement project. The other half of the fair funds goes to one or more charities.
Where the money goes is different every year. One year, many members of our church were stricken by cancer. That year, part of the funds went to the American Cancer Society and Ann’s Place. Another time, proceeds went to Regional Hospice.
This year we are celebrating the 225th anniversary of Brookfield’s founding. We thought it would be interesting to find a way to benefit the various towns that created Brookfield. As such, we are allocating the mission portion of the 2013 Yankee Fair proceeds to food programs in the towns from which Brookfield was created: Brookfield Social Services food pantry, New Milford’s Loaves and Fishes, Danbury’s Dorothy Day Hospitality House and Newtown Social Services food pantry.
