Canton Earns Chance to Play for Second Straight Girls Hoop Crown
The Warriors knocked off second-seeded Housatonic in the Class S semifinals Friday night to clinch a third straight title game berth.

CANTON, CT — No, this is not a broken record, it is fact: Canton and Thomaston are about to hook up in the Class S girls basketball finals for the third straight season.
Defending champion Canton, which broke Thomaston's two-year hold on the title in 2016, earned its upcoming return trip to the Mohegan Sun Arena with a 41-32 win over second-seeded Housatonic Regional Friday night at Simsbury High School.
Emily Briggs was the only player on either team to score in double figures, tallying 21 points.

Meanwhile, at Wilby High School, No. 5 Thomaston clinched its fifth straight trip to the finals by crushing 16th-seeded Sacred Heart, 61-28.
After registering their first Class S championship in 21 years by defeating St. Paul in a double-overtime thriller in 2014, the Bears successfully defended the title by edging Canton 52-50 the following year. The Warriors got revenge by downing Thomaston by a 64-51 count last season for their first-ever state crown.
