Here is how Canton voted in the 2016 election.
CANTON, CT — Registered voters in Canton had an early start to the polls on Nov. 8 for the 2016 election, and the momentum continued until the balloting closed at 8 p.m.
Here are the unofficial results of how Canton voted, posted by the secretary of the state:

- (D) Clinton and Kaine - 3,100 - 51.65 percent
- (R) Trump and Pence - 2,601 - 43.34 percent
- (L) Johnson and Weld - 187 - 3.12 percent
- (G) Stein and Baraka - 100 - 1.67 percent
U.S. Senate
- (D) Richard Blumenthal - 3,386 - 57.32 percent
- (R) Dan Carter - 2,391 - 40.48 percent
- (G) Jeffery Russell - 66 - 1.12 percent
- (L) Richard Lion - 64 - 1.08 percent

CANTON, CT — Canton residents headed to the polls Tuesday for the 2016 midterm election. Polling places in Canton are now closed.
At noontime, Canton had already registered a voter turnout of 45 percent.
"I've been here for three hours, and this is the first time the driveway (at Canton High School) has not been packed out to the street," Rep. Tim LeGeyt said. "We are having a gangbuster turnout for this election. Not the least of it is the top of the ticket, but we've got a big issue here in Canton about the garage. I'm in favor of rebuilding it where it is."
In Canton, the choice for 8th Senatorial District involves Republican incumbent Kevin Witkos and Democratic challenger David Pena. Witkos is a four-term incumbent and Senate Minority Leader Pro Tempore. Pena has been a member of the Avon Planning and Zoning Commission since 2007.
In the 17th State House District, LeGeyt is running unopposed for a fifth term.
Candidates for registrar of voters are Democrat Lynn Homan and Republican John Miner.
The candidates for president and vice president are Republicans Donald Trump and Mike Pence, Democrats Hillary Clinton and Tim Kaine, Libertarians Gary Johnson and Bill Weld, and Green Party Jill Stein and Ajamu Baraka.
For United States Senate, the candidates are Democratic incumbent Richard Blumenthal, Republican Dan Carter, Libertarian Richard Lion and Green Party Jeffery Russell.
For United States Congress, the choice is between Democratic incumbent Elizabeth Esty and Republican challenger Clay Cope.
