Maureen (Silver) McCall, 76, of Avon, loving wife of 58 years to Richard B. McCall, peacefully entered into eternal rest on December 4, 2016.
Born in Hartford, she was the beloved daughter and eldest of five children to the late John F. Silver and Rose (Gaioni) Silver. Maureen resided in Avon most of her life and had fond memories as a child of her grandfather Frank Silver's Mountain View Dairy Farm on West Avon Rd. in Avon where the stone silo still stands.
She was a graduate of Canton High School, Class of 1958. After graduation, she married the love of her life and best friend, Richard. Throughout the years, Maureen worked at the Travelers Insurance Company, State of Connecticut Environmental Protection—Parks and Forest Division, and ultimately retired from the State of Connecticut Dept. of Revenue Services. Upon retiring, she volunteered with FAVARH for many years.

As the matriarch of the family, Maureen would always go above and beyond for the people she loved, and was the first person to offer a helping hand and loving advice. Christmas was her favorite holiday; her family has years of wonderful memories of Christmas gatherings with plenty of food, laughter, love, and always the arrival of Santa. Once you were at "Auntie Maur's" house, you never wanted to leave.
Maureen was a dedicated wife, a loving mother, and a very proud grandmother. She shared a special bond with her precious grandsons, Connor and Ryan. One phone call from her grandsons, and "Nanie" would make her Italian meatballs, chicken soup and Thanksgiving stuffing just for them to enjoy. Maureen was an avid fan of her grandsons' soccer games, and for over 10 years, she and Richard would attend and cheer them on every Saturday while they played for the Burlington Junior Soccer Association Boys Rec Soccer Team-Burlington Thunders. She was especially proud and overjoyed to watch her grandson play in his first game with the Lewis Mills High School Soccer Team.

After every Saturday game, it was tradition to have breakfast at Rodd's in Bristol. She also cherished spending time with her daughter; whether it was decorating the house, going to Old Mill Pond, visiting Yankee Candle, or having family dinners—barely a day passed that they did not see or speak with each other. Maureen had a truly generous and compassionate soul, and she will be missed by all who loved her dearly.
Maureen is survived by her devoted husband, Richard B. McCall of Avon; her loving daughter, Erin McCall of Burlington; and her adored grandsons, Connor and Ryan of Burlington. She also leaves her brothers and sisters-in-law; John and Jean Silver of New York, Francis and Ann Silver of Unionville, and Robert and Nilda Silver of Farmington; a sister, Betty Ann Colon of Canton; her brother-in-law, Donald P. McCall and his wife Cynthia of Rocky Hill; thirteen precious Godchildren; and many loving nieces, nephews and friends.
Maureen's family would like to acknowledge the exceptional medical care by Dr. Ramkumar Sankaran, Dr. Carolyn Ray (Maureen's "Ray of Sunshine"), and to all the outstanding, unsung heroes at the Comprehensive Women's Infusion Center at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10AM on Friday, December 9 at the Church of St. Ann, Avon. Guests are asked to go directly to church on Friday morning.
