Canton Tackles Major Brush Fire Of Its Own
Canton firefighters Tuesday released several images of personnel swarming a secluded, wooded area of town Sunday to battle a brush fire.

CANTON, CT — As the massive brush fire in Berlin continues to burn, Canton firefighters had a manic weekend battling one of their own.
The Canton Fire and EMS Department posted several images of responders swarming Indian Hill Road Sunday evening.
There, Canton firefighters, with help from three mutual aid departments, put out what was described as a "large brush fire" in the woods in that part of town.

Heavily rural in spots, Canton is particularly susceptible to brush fires given the dry weather and the amount of forest fire fuel in town.
And, that fuel, is extremely dry, a byproduct of an ongoing drought this fall.

It prompted the town to reiterate its stance against any open burning, whether permited or legal, including outdoor cooking.
Ultimately, the blaze was put out overnight and Canton thanked responders from the New Hartford Volunteer Fire Department, Burlington Volunteer Fire Department, and the Barkhamsted East Volunteer Fire Co. No. 1.
