“The Canton Police Department will NEVER call you to request money or payment of any kind,” the department said.

They added that legitimate officers will not ask for gift cards, bank or credit card details, or personal information to resolve a warrant or investigation.

Police advised residents who receive such calls to hang up immediately and avoid engaging with the caller.

They also emphasized not to share personal or financial information, including Social Security numbers, banking details, or passwords.

Residents who are uncertain about a call’s legitimacy should contact the department directly using a publicly listed phone number, officials said.

Authorities are also asking anyone who receives a suspicious call to report it so they can track potential scam activity.

The department encouraged residents to share the warning with others in the community to help prevent further incidents.

No arrests or identified suspects have been announced.
