Town officials can use this new revenue for environmental projects like cleanups, composting, or recycling efforts that directly benefit residents.    

• Cheshire approves $155.5 million budget with tax increase despite some opposition (ctpost.com) — Cheshire’s Town Council has approved a $155.5 million 2026-27 budget that raises the mill rate to 31.68, increasing local property taxes. Most funding goes to schools, with separate allocations for the library and community pool, and failed attempts to trim taxes or school spending highlighting concerns about residents and businesses struggling with rising costs.    

• Hamden house fire started by grill displaces family, kills pet (wfsb.com) — A Sunday morning house fire in Hamden, traced to a flat top grill, displaced a family, killed one pet, and sent one person to the hospital. Cheshire firefighters, along with New Haven and North Haven crews, provided mutual aid station coverage while Hamden battled the basement blaze.
