1. Inmate Injures 6 Correctional Officers At Cheshire Prison: DOC (patch.com) — Residents may be concerned after six correctional officers were injured during a violent confrontation with an inmate at Cheshire Correctional Institution Monday night, following the discovery of contraband. State police are investigating, and prison officials say they are reviewing procedures while expressing support for the officers and their families.
2. Cheshire Student Wins Whitey Piurek ‘No ‘I’ In Team’ Award (patch.com) — Cheshire baseball fans can cheer for hometown player Dylan Santino, who will be honored with the John “Whitey” Piurek “There’s No ‘I’ in Team” Award at a regional banquet this month. The Southern Connecticut Diamond Club will recognize unselfish high school players from 34 schools, with proceeds supporting local baseball programs.
3. Where to pick-your-own strawberries in Connecticut: MAP (wtnh.com) — Strawberry season is here, and one local note is that Zentek Farms in Cheshire, which offered pick-your-own berries last year, will not be doing so this season. The statewide roundup still points residents to many other Connecticut farms, with picking running from early June through late July.
4. CT Lottery players have won $6 million on Meriden-Waterbury Turnpike this year alone (fox61.com) — A $4 million winning scratch ticket was sold in January at the Gulf Convenience Mart on the Meriden-Waterbury Turnpike in Cheshire, earning the store a $40,000 retailer bonus. Just minutes down the same road, a Southington couple later won $2 million at Atlantis Citgo, continuing a remarkable streak of lottery luck along that stretch. All MEGA MULTIPLIER winning tickets must be validated by Nov. 25.
5. GametimeCT Top 10 softball poll: The Conference tournaments are finished, the CIAC tournaments begin (ctpost.com) — Cheshire softball fans will be glad to know the Rams are ranked No. 1 in the latest statewide poll as they chase back-to-back Class LL titles after an extra-inning conference win. The CIAC tournaments begin this week, with several top teams, including Cheshire, opening play in later rounds.
