Arrest Made In Officer-Involved Shooting In Cheshire

Police responded to a domestic violence incident in Cheshire in which the suspect fired shots at officers and was shot with return fire.

CHESHIRE, CT — Police have arrested Cameron Pernin in connection to the officer-involved shooting that took place during a domestic violence incident Friday night in Cheshire. Shortly after 7 p.m. on June 22, police responded to a home in the 100 block of Fairway Drive to investigate a domestic violence disturbance. The victim was able to flee the home upon the arrival of officer, according to police.

“The suspect, Cameron Pernin, then exited his home armed with a semi-automatic handgun and began firing at officers,” Cheshire Police wrote in a press release. “Three Cheshire police officers returned fire, striking Pernin at least one time. Pernin sustained non-life-threatening injuries and retreated into his home where he remained barricaded.”

Police were able to make contact with Pernin and talked him into surrendering a short time later. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment, according to police.

Pernin, 29, was arrested Monday and charged with risk of injury, third-degree assault and first-degree threatening. He is being held on a $500,000 bond and was scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on June 25.

While he was being processed at Cheshire Police headquarters, Connecticut State Police served Pernin with an arrest warrant for the same incident. He was charged with two counts of attempted first-degree assault and one count of criminal possession of a pistol or revolver. His court-set bond for those charges is $750,000.

The use of force in the officer-involved shooting remains under investigation by Connecticut State Police Detectives assigned to Central District Major Crime and the New Haven State’s Attorney’s Office. The names of the officers will be released by the New Haven State’s Attorney or by CSP at the New Haven State’s Attorney’s discretion, according to state police.
