Cheshire Appoints Interim Superintendent of Schools

Dr. Greg Florio is leaving the district in January to become the new executive director of CREC.

Assistant Superintendent of Schools Scott Detrick will serve as Cheshire’s interim superintendent when Dr. Greg Florio begins his new job in January following a unanimous vote by the Board of Education Thursday night, according to the Meriden Record-Journal.

The Record-Journal reports Florio, who will become the executive director of the Capitol Region Education Council, will leave the district on Jan. 4.

Detrick has been serving as the assistant superintendent for instructional services and will remain the interim superintendent for the rest of the 2015-16 school year or until a new superintendent is selected, according to the Record-Journal.

In his new job Florio will oversee 18 interdistrict magnet schools, several special education schools and a wide array of services for 35 school districts in Greater Hartford. CREC serves about 9,000 students and has an operational budget of about $300 million and a staff of about 2,000, according to the Hartford Courant.
