Cheshire Athletes Receive SCC Honors
Sarah Pierpont and Jordan Kolpak were recently named SCC Scholar Athletes of the Month.

Cheshire’s Sarah Pierpont and Jordan Kolpak were among the 15 student-athletes from eight high schools recently been named The SportsCenter of Connecticut/Southern Connecticut Conference Scholar Athletes of the Month for October.
Now in its 10th year, The SportsCenter of Connecticut/SCC Scholar Athlete of the Month program will honor outstanding young men and women each month during the 2015-16 academic year.
“Many thanks to the Sports Center of Connecticut for its support of the SCC and the Scholar Athlete of the Month program,” SCC Commissioner Al Carbone said. “This conference has been proud of its success for the last 21-plus years, and to be able to recognize outstanding young men and women who demonstrate the desire and ability to succeed solidifies what the SCC is all about.”

Student athletes who are selected must be a varsity letter-winner and have a 3.0/B average while demonstrating leadership qualities such as: being a positive role model; helping teammates overcome adversity; showing a commitment to self-improvement; or putting the needs of the team before themselves.
Sports Center of CT/SCC Scholar Athletes of the Month receive a certificate, commemorative T-shirt and a SportsCenter of Connecticut activity pass.

Pierpont, a standout member of the Rams’ field hockey squad that reached the Class L state championship game in 2015, ranks in the top 5 percent of her senior class with a 4.6 grade-point average.
Active in several school organizations, including Best Buddies, she also plays lacrosse and runs indoor track.
Pierpont earned First Team All-SCC field hockey honors this fall.
“Sarah is a great student, athlete and leader in the Cheshire high school community,” Cheshire athletic director Steve Trifone said.
Kolpak, a three-sport (cross country, indoor and outdoor track) standout for the Rams, has been an outstanding student in the classroom with a 3.93 grade-point average.
This past fall, Kolpak earned Second Team All-SCC honors after finishing 24th in the league championship race, which helped the Rams finish fourth in the final team standings.
“Jordan is a hard-working student-athlete who trains and prepares well in the classroom and in athletic competition,” Trifone said.
