Cheshire Correction Officer Assaulted by Inmate
Union president wants state leadership to take action after second violent attack on a prison worker in the last six months at the facility.

An officer at the Cheshire Correctional Complex was “violently” assaulted by a 20-year-old inmate Wednesday, the second serious attack on a prison worker at the facility within the last six months, and the leader of the correction officers’ union is calling on state leaders to take action, according to NBC Connecticut.
AFSCME Local 387 President, and state correction officer, Rudy Demiraj said in a statement that the “latest attack only reinforces our longstanding concerns over safety, staffing and security within Connecticut’s prisons,” according to NBC.
He called on the Department of Correction, state legislators and Governor Dannel P. Malloy to not just “listen to our concerns, but to take action to better protect public safety.”
