Cheshire Grad Makes Winter Olympic Debut In Beijing

CHESHIRE, CT — Cheshire High School graduate Sabrina Cass made her Winter Olympic debut Thursday as the first mogul skier to ever compete for Brazil, according to the Record-Journal.

Cass, 19, didn’t advance out of the qualifying round of the freestyle skiing women's moguls in Beijing on Thursday. She finished 21st and will have another chance to qualify for the finals on Sunday morning, according to NBC Connecticut.

Cass, who won the Valmalenco 2019 Junior World Championships, has dual citizenship with the U.S. and Brazil. She gained her first skiing experience when she was 2 years old and participated in her first competition when she was 10, according to Olympics.com.

Her family would drive four hours every Friday so that they could ski over the weekend.

"We would drive to the mountains every weekend,” Cass said, via Olympics.com. “When I was 10, they suggested I tried freestyle. I really didn't want it, I was scared, but I ended up loving it. Every winter we would move from Connecticut to Park City for me to train. It was a big sacrifice, but they wanted the best for me.”
