Cheshire Keeps Hopes Alive in Northeast Regional Tournament

Cheshire beats Rhode Island, will play in another elimination game Saturday.

With their backs against the wall, the Cheshire American Legion baseball team kept its playoff hopes alive with a 7-2 victory over Rhode Island Friday morning at Palmer Field in Middletown.

Cheshire will play the loser of Friday’s RCP/Middletown game Saturday at Palmer Field.

Mike Purcell had three hits and two RBIs to pace the Cheshire offense, while Kyle Waldron allowed two runs on six hits in 7 2/3 innings to earn the victory.

Cheshire has recently beat both RCP and Middletown. Post 92 defeated RCP in a winner-take-all state final and beat Middletown on the last day of the regular season to capture the Zone III championship.

We’re confident going into it because we beat them both earlier in the year,” Waldron told Henry Chisholm of the New Haven Register/GameTimeCT.
