Cheshire Lawmaker Fined By State Over Misuse Of Campaign Funds
A state legislator who represents Cheshire was recently fined by the state Elections Enforcement Commission.
CHESHIRE, CT — State Rep. Lezlye Zupkus was recently ordered to repay $427 to the Citizens Election Program grant following an audit by the state Elections Enforcement Commission of 2018 election expenses, according to the Meriden Record-Journal.
The Record-Journal reports the audit found that the money was inappropriately paid to a family member who worked on her campaign.
Zupkus told the Record-Journal the issue was an “honest mistake” and said the payments were made to her husband’s nephew who was paid to distribute campaign literature that year.
