Cheshire Man Sentenced For Killing Wife: State’s Attorney

Authorities said an autopsy found 30-40 stab wounds, including two long wounds to the victim's neck.

CHESHIRE, CT —A Cheshire man has been sentenced to prison in connection with the killing of his wife in 2019, according to officials.

Emanuel Dominguez-VillaGomez, 35, was sentenced Thursday to 27 years in prison for the fatal stabbing of his wife, 31-year-old Monica Pinto Dominguez in Cheshire in 2019, New Haven State’s Attorney John P. Doyle Jr. announced.

Dominguez-VillaGomez pleaded guilty in New Haven Superior Court on Nov. 3, 2023 to murder and risk of injury to a child prior to and in lieu of a criminal jury trial, according to Doyle.

“Evidence in the case showed Dominguez-VillaGomez attacked his wife with a knife, stabbing her numerous times in their Cheshire home on September 11, 2019,” officials wrote in a news release. “Cheshire Police responded to a 911 call from the home and entered into an occurring crime scene where they located the defendant, the victim and two minor children within the home.”

Monica Pinto Dominguez died four days after the attack, according to police.

“An autopsy revealed a total of 30-40 stab wounds, including two long wounds to the victim's neck,” the news release states. “During a probable cause hearing in New Haven Superior Court in March of 2020, Dr. Jacqueline Nunez of the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner testified that she observed a total of 10 ‘sharp wounds’ to the victim’s neck, 13 ‘sharp wounds’ to her head and four wounds to her torso, as well as about 13 wounds to her hands.”

Doyle said Monica Pinto Dominguez’s family participated and observed Thursday’s court proceedings over a virtual platform from Portugal, where they reside.

The case was prosecuted by Doyle and Senior Assistant State’s Attorney Melissa R. Holmes, with assistance from Supervisory Inspector Robert Sage and Inspector Sean Faughnan.

Doyle extended his “gratitude to the Cheshire Police Department for their investigative efforts as well as their professionalism and compassion on this case,” according to the news release.
