Cheshire Offense Erupts Early To Coast To Boys Lacrosse State Title

FAIRFIELD, CT — Cheshire erupted for six unanswered goals in the opening quarter and never looked back, breezing to an 18-3 victory over Daniel Hand of Madison in the Class M boys lacrosse championship game Sunday at Sacred Heart University.

Matthew Jeffery, ranked among the top high school players in the country, scored three of the first six Ram goals, and finished with a total of six in the game. Adam Vernon had four goals, Sean Grevelding netted three and Charles Kurtz added a pair. Rocco Botti, JC Sutherland and Ben Thompson contributed single tallies for the Rams, who won their third state championship, but first since 2010.

William Kleine, Alex Cushing and Chase Docker scored goals for Daniel Hand, which is still seeking its first state title. The Tigers have been state runner-up on seven occasions.
