Cheshire Police Identify Victims in Murder-Suicide (Updated)

The shooting took place Tuesday afternoon on Cornwall Avenue.

Cheshire police have identified the victim’s in Tuesday’s shooting on Cornwall Avenue and said it was a murder-suicide, according to the New Haven Register.

The victims were identified as Christopher A. Settembri, 19, and Christopher P. Settembri, 48.

NBC Connecticut is reporting that the victims were father and son.

Police said the younger Settembri was found in a downstairs bedroom with a fatal wound and that the elder Settembri was found in an upstairs bedroom with an apparent self-inflicted wound, according to the Register.

WTNH reports that the family has ties to Cheshire schools and the school system has plans in place for counseling for students.

NBC Connecticut reports that the younger Settembri was a recent graduate of Cheshire High School and investigators discovered the bodies around 4 p.m. Tuesday, and autopsies revealed that both had been dead for hours before authorities were called to the scene.

A neighbor told NBC that the the elder Settembri was a married father of four and a stay-at-home dad. His wife had been unable to reach him by phone and she arrived home to discover the scene Tuesday afternoon, according to NBC, which also reported that the couple’s youngest daughter – still in elementary school – had already discovered the bodies.
