Cheshire Restaurant Reopens After ‘Explosion’ Led to Evacuation

The restaurant was evacuated after water from a sprinkler hit a hot pizza oven and caused a "boom" sound on Thursday night.

CHESHIRE, CT — Viron Rondo Osteria is open for business Friday night after the restaurant was evacuated on Thursday night over what was reported to be an explosion, according to the Meriden Record-Journal.

The Record-Journal reports there was no actual explosion and that water from a sprinkler had hit a hot pizza oven and caused the “boom” sound.

The incident led to the evacuation of the restaurant and shut down Route 10 for about 15 minutes on Thursday night, according to the Record-Journal.

“A heartfelt thank you from Deni and myself to my staff, the Cheshire fire and police departments,” Restaurant owner Viron Rondo said in a post on Facebook Friday afternoon. “We are very grateful that nobody was hurt and we were overwhelmed by the love of everyone that stayed late and came early to ensure we would open on time today. We are blessed to have staff that works as a team, loves what they do and loves who they serve. We look forward to seeing you TONITE as we are OPEN. #tgif”
