Conard Closes Out Cheshire in State Tournament

Cheshire's season comes to an end in the Division II quarterfinals.

The Cheshire hockey team’s season came to an end with a 4-2 loss to top-seeded Conard in the CIAC Division II quarterfinals Friday night in Bridgeport.

The ninth-seeded Rams (9-11-2) held a 2-1 lead heading into the final period before the Chieftains (16-6) rallied for three goals to storm into the semifinals.

Cheshire coach Karl Sundquist told Sean Krofssik of the Meriden Record-Journal that his team “gave us everything they could” and that he was “super proud of my guys.”

Cheshire had advanced to the quarterfinals with a 5-2 victory over eight-seeded North Haven in the opening round of the tournament earlier in the week.

Junior goaltender Jake Verneris led the way with 36 saves in the win.
