Ranked choice voting (RCV) gives voters a better way to express their preferences and produces more representative election outcomes. It was recommended by the American Academy of Arts and Sciences as a strategy for achieving equality of voice and representation in its report, Reinventing American Democracy for the 21st Century. Following state referendums, RCV is now being used in Maine and Alaska, and is undergoing consideration for adoption by other states.

Jonathan Perloe co-founded and leads Voter Choice Connecticut, the citizens’ group working to bring ranked choice voting to Connecticut. Since the 2016 election, he has been active in efforts to protect and expand voting rights and strengthen our democracy, including the successful grassroots effort to get Connecticut to join the National Popular Vote Compact. Following his retirement from a lengthy career at Yale, Jeff Brenzel joined Voter Choice Connecticut after being heavily engaged in the 2020 state and national campaigns, concluding that nonpartisan electoral reforms are crucial to sustaining American democracy.
