Esty To Be Honored With Women of Distinction Award

Cheshire resident and U.S. Rep. Elizabeth Esty (D-5) to receive Women of Distinction award from CT Federation of Democratic Women.

From Cheshire Democratic Town Committe: Doing more for others than you would do for yourself is a phrase that certainly exemplifies Elizabeth Esty’s focus throughout her political career.

While a member of the Cheshire Town Council from 2005-2008, she was a champion of senior citizens, especially in providing tax relief to seniors. Being fiscally responsible was her mantra, and, as always, she was a strong advocate for education.

Serving in the Connecticut General Assembly from 2009-2011, she cut her own pay, championed the rights and benefits for gay couples, and when Pratt & Whitney closed in Cheshire, Esty focused on securing retirement packages and searching for job replacements for the 1,000 workers laid off. As a United States Representative for Connecticut’s 5th District 2012-present, her priorities are job creation and economic development. She also advocates for small business, is a strong proponent of gun control measures, and continues to make education a focus, including co-authoring the STEM Education Act to strengthen science, technology engineering and math education efforts.
