Former Cheshire Police Union President Pleads Guilty to Larceny Charges

The former union president of the Cheshire police union pleaded guilty Monday to stealing nearly $50,000 from the union’s accounts, according to the Cheshire Citizen.
Robert Anderson, 43, of Wilton, was arrested Jan. 9 on two counts of first-degree larceny.
The Citizen reports that Anderson pleaded guilty to three counts of fourth-degree larceny, a Class A misdemeanor, and will avoid jail time. Anderson received a three-year suspended sentence with two years of probation, according to the Citizen, and as part of the probation Anderson waives any future certification as a police officer.

According to the New Haven Register, Anderson served as union president in 2008 and vice president from 2011 through the end of 2012. Anderson was accused of stealing more than $22,000 in cash through automated teller machine withdrawals and about $27,400 through debit card transactions from the union’s bank accounts, according to the Register.
The Cheshire Citizen reports that Anderson used the money to take his girlfriend to San Francisco, pay bills and dine out.
