Large Apartment Complex Approved In Cheshire
The Planning and Zoning Commission approved a 114-unit apartment complex, which includes affordable units, to be built in Cheshire.
CHESHIRE, CT — The Cheshire Planning and Zoning Commission recently approved a 114-unit apartment complex at the site of a former nursing home on Hazel Drive.
The commission approved the complex, which will be known as Lakeside of Cheshire, by an 8-1 vote during a special meeting on Monday. The plan calls for Lamp Realty LLC to build two buildings on 22-acres at 50 Hazel Drive and includes 29 affordable housing units.
Planning & Zoning Commission member Robert Brucato, who voted against the complex, said the development is “too large for the area,” according to minutes of the meeting. He said the complex should be smaller buildings at a greater distance.

Brucato said the “noise across the water will also disrupt the neighbors,” according to meeting minutes. He also said an affordable housing development is needed in town, “but this one is too massive for the area.”
Another member, Gil Linder, said it is a “good development.”

“This neighborhood has been living with this blighted property for many years,” Linder said, according to meeting minutes. “The nursing home generated traffic without complaints.”
