Man Pleads Guilty In Officer-Involved Shooting In Cheshire

CHESHIRE, CT — A Cheshire man is scheduled to be sentenced in January after pleading guilty to charges in connection with an officer-involved shooting that took place during a domestic violence incident last year, according to the Meriden Record-Journal.

Cameron Pernin, 30, was arrested in June of 2018 after police responded to a home in the 100 block of Fairway Drive to investigate a domestic violence disturbance. The victim was able to get out of the home before police arrived.

"The suspect, Cameron Pernin, then exited his home armed with a semi-automatic handgun and began firing at officers," Cheshire Police said at the time of the arrest. "Three Cheshire police officers returned fire, striking Pernin at least one time. Pernin sustained non-life-threatening injuries and retreated into his home where he remained barricaded."

Police made contact with Pernin and talked him into surrendering a short time later. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment, according to police. Pernin was originally charged with risk of injury, third-degree assault and first-degree threatening.

The Record-Journal reports Pernin pleaded guilty this week to two counts of attempt to commit first-degree assault and one count each of third-degree assault and first-degree reckless endangerment. He is being held on bonds totaling $1.25 million and is scheduled to be sentenced on Jan. 23, 2020, according to state judicial records.

Pernin, who was shot in the hand by police, was wearing a bulletproof vest and was accused of threatening his infant daughter and her mother during the incident, according to the Record-Journal.
